Welcome to my online portfolio!
I’m Steve Chobanian, a seasoned graphic designer, photographer, and illustrator based in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL. I have over thirty years of experience, mostly in the defense industry with aerospace/reconnaissance. I started my career working as a technical illustrator for Recon/Optical, Inc., a reconnaissance camera company near Chicago in the 1980s. Following the purchase of Recon in 2008, I continued working for Goodrich Aerospace until our plant closure in 2011. For the next 4 years, I managed my own graphic design business. In 2015, I started working as a production artist and designer in the in-house creative department for a large retailer where I've acquired more knowledge of commercial art and design skills.

Looking back, one of the things I’ve enjoyed the most in my career is working in the defense industry because I know the products and understand the client’s needs. It was in the defense industry where I was able to use the full range of my creative skills making beautiful printed, online, and display graphics, aesthetically pleasing product and onsite photography, and taking extremely complicated concepts and making them understandable for all levels of technical understanding through illustrations.

My former manager affectionately referred to me as a “one-man art department,” a title I wholeheartedly embrace. I relish the opportunity to apply a diverse range of creative skills to every project.
